2-Finger Gripper

A 2-finger gripper is an end effector with two opposing fingers, most commonly a parallel-jaw design in which both fingers translate along a single axis, actuated electrically or pneumatically. Devices like the Robotiq 2F-85 and the Franka gripper made it the default research end effector: a single grasp degree of freedom simplifies control and learning while handling a surprisingly broad range of objects, especially with compliant fingertips.

Why it matters for physical AI

The vast majority of manipulation datasets and benchmark results assume a parallel jaw, so the two-finger gripper effectively defines the action space, and the capability ceiling, of most current learned manipulation.
