6-DOF Pose Estimation

6-DOF pose estimation is the task of recovering an object's full rigid-body pose, three translational and three rotational degrees of freedom, relative to a camera or world frame from visual or depth data. Methods span classical point-pair features on point clouds, learned approaches such as PoseCNN, and model-based or few-shot systems like FoundationPose, evaluated on benchmarks including YCB-Video and the BOP challenge suite.

Why it matters for physical AI

Precise object pose is what converts detections into graspable geometry for model-based manipulation, and pose-aware pipelines still outperform end-to-end policies on high-precision tasks like tight-tolerance assembly.
