Applications
Bioinspired Robotics
Bioinspired robotics is the design of robots that borrow principles from biological organisms, spanning gecko-adhesive climbers, undulating snake robots, flapping-wing micro air vehicles, octopus-like soft arms, and legged machines whose gaits and compliant tendons echo animal biomechanics. Rather than copying anatomy outright, the field abstracts mechanisms such as passive dynamics, distributed compliance, and sensory-motor reflexes that evolution converged on for robustness and efficiency.
Why it matters for physical AI
Animals remain the existence proof for agile, efficient, damage-tolerant physical intelligence, and bioinspired principles like compliance and reflex layering repeatedly resurface inside successful learned-control architectures.
