Expert Demonstrations

Expert Demonstrations are task executions performed by a proficient demonstrator, human or scripted controller, recorded as the supervision data for imitation learning. Expertise implies near-optimal, consistent behavior; in practice demonstrations vary in strategy, smoothness, and error-recovery content, and this heterogeneity strongly affects what behavior cloning learns. Offline reinforcement learning methods explicitly relax the expertise assumption to learn from mixed-quality data.

Why it matters for physical AI

Policy quality is bounded by demonstration quality under pure imitation, so operator training, consistency audits, and quality-weighted sampling are as consequential as model architecture in production pipelines.
