Gripper Calibration
Gripper calibration is the process of identifying the geometric and functional parameters of an end effector so commands and sensing are accurate: the tool center point transform relating gripper frame to robot flange, finger opening width as a function of actuator position, grip force versus commanded effort, and zero offsets of integrated sensors. Combined with hand-eye calibration of cameras, it ensures perceived grasp poses are executed where intended.
Why it matters for physical AI
Millimeter-level pose errors from stale calibration silently destroy grasp success rates, and learned policies trained on one calibration state can degrade after hardware swaps, making calibration hygiene an operational necessity for fleets.
