Hexapod

A hexapod is a six-legged walking robot, a morphology that permits statically stable gaits such as the alternating tripod, in which three legs always form a support polygon. Inspired by insect locomotion, hexapods handle rough, unstructured terrain without dynamic balance control. The term also denotes six-strut Stewart platform positioners used for precision motion, a distinct mechanism.

Static stability makes hexapods forgiving testbeds for terrain-adaptive gait learning, and their redundancy tolerates leg failures, which is valuable for inspection missions in hazardous environments.
