An underwater robot is a marine vehicle that operates submerged, spanning tethered remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) piloted from the surface and untethered autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) that execute missions independently. Applications include offshore infrastructure and hull inspection, oceanographic survey, pipeline monitoring, and deep-sea exploration.
