DROID
DROID (Distributed Robot Interaction Dataset) is a large-scale manipulation dataset released in 2024, containing roughly 76,000 teleoperated demonstration trajectories, about 350 hours, collected on a standardized Franka arm platform by dozens of institutions across North America, Europe, and Asia. Each episode includes multi-view stereo camera streams, language annotations, and full controller states, with deliberate diversity in scenes, tasks, and objects across hundreds of buildings.
Why it matters for physical AI
Policies co-trained on DROID show measurably better robustness to novel scenes and objects, evidence that standardized, in-the-wild data collection improves generalization in ways lab-only datasets cannot.
