Egocentric Video

Egocentric Video is first-person footage captured from a camera worn on the head, chest, or glasses of the person performing an activity, in contrast to third-person views of the actor. It exhibits characteristic hand-centric framing, motion blur from head movement, and tight coupling between gaze and action. Datasets such as Ego4D and Epic-Kitchens established benchmarks for hand-object interaction understanding and action anticipation from this viewpoint.

Why it matters for physical AI

Wearable cameras can capture human manipulation at a scale no robot fleet matches, and the egocentric viewpoint roughly aligns with wrist- and head-mounted robot cameras, making such video a key ingredient for pretraining manipulation policies.
