Event Camera

Event Camera is a neuromorphic vision sensor whose pixels asynchronously and independently report logarithmic brightness changes as timestamped events, rather than capturing full frames at a fixed rate. Commercialized as dynamic vision sensors by companies including iniVation and Prophesee, event cameras offer microsecond temporal resolution, roughly 120 dB dynamic range, and low power, at the cost of requiring fundamentally different processing algorithms.

Why it matters for physical AI

High-speed motion and harsh lighting defeat conventional cameras exactly where dynamic robots operate, and event sensing has enabled low-latency drone obstacle avoidance and tracking beyond frame-based limits.
