Neuromorphic Computing

Neuromorphic computing is a hardware paradigm that mimics the brain's event-driven, spiking computation, exemplified by chips such as Intel's Loihi and IBM's TrueNorth. Instead of clocked dense matrix operations, spiking neural networks compute asynchronously and only when events occur, yielding very low power consumption. It pairs naturally with event cameras, which output sparse brightness-change events rather than frames.

Power budgets on mobile robots and drones are tight, and event-driven sensing plus neuromorphic inference offers microsecond-latency, milliwatt-scale perception for high-speed control.
