Placement Precision
Placement precision is the accuracy with which a robot sets an object at a target pose, encompassing both position and orientation error at release. Unlike robot repeatability, it compounds uncertainty from perception, calibration, grasp acquisition, in-grasp slip, and release dynamics, so a highly repeatable arm can still place objects poorly. Tight-tolerance placement often requires in-hand pose estimation or contact-based alignment strategies.
Why it matters for physical AI
Assembly, kitting, and packing are judged by where objects end up, not where the gripper went, so quantifying and improving placement error is often more important than the arm's nominal repeatability.
