Safety-Rated Monitored Stop
Safety-rated monitored stop is one of the four collaborative operation modes defined in ISO 10218 and ISO/TS 15066, in which the robot halts motion whenever a human enters the collaborative workspace but keeps its drives energized. Safety-rated sensors monitor the stop condition, and motion may resume automatically once the person leaves. It allows a human and robot to share a workspace sequentially without a full protective shutdown and restart cycle.
Why it matters for physical AI
Understanding the standardized collaborative modes is essential when deploying manipulation systems in shared human workspaces, since certification and risk assessment hinge on which mode the cell implements.
