SO-100 Arm
The SO-100 arm is a low-cost, open-source robotic arm developed by The Robot Studio with Hugging Face's LeRobot project, built from 3D-printed parts and Feetech serial-bus servos for a parts cost on the order of one hundred dollars per arm. It is typically used as a leader-follower teleoperation pair for collecting imitation learning data. The refined SO-101 (2025) improved assembly and gearing, and the design became a de facto standard platform for community robot learning.
Why it matters for physical AI
Collapsing hardware cost by two orders of magnitude turned data collection and policy training into a hobbyist-accessible activity, seeding the community datasets behind open robot foundation models.
