Unitree G1

The Unitree G1 is a compact humanoid robot introduced by Unitree Robotics in 2024, standing roughly 1.3 meters tall and weighing about 35 kilograms, with a starting price near 16,000 US dollars that undercut prior humanoids by an order of magnitude. It offers over 23 joint degrees of freedom, optional three-fingered hands, and 3D LiDAR plus depth sensing, and it has become a widespread research platform for whole-body reinforcement learning and teleoperated data collection.

Why it matters for physical AI

Affordable humanoid hardware moved whole-body learning research from a handful of well-funded labs to the broader community, accelerating progress on humanoid locomotion, teleoperation pipelines, and foundation-model control.
