Teleoperation

Latency Compensation

Latency compensation is the set of techniques used to mitigate the destabilizing effects of time delay in a control loop, particularly in teleoperation over networks. Methods include predictive displays that render forecasted robot state to the operator, Smith predictors that internally simulate the delayed plant, and passivity-based approaches such as wave variables that preserve stability in delayed bilateral teleoperation.

Why it matters for physical AI

Remote teleoperation is both a deployment mode and a data-collection engine for robot learning; compensating delay keeps demonstrations smooth and safe even when operators are far from the hardware.

Put these concepts to work on real hardware

Axol is a dual-arm robot built for physical AI — teleoperate it, collect demonstrations, and deploy learned policies out of the box.
