Mining Robot

A mining robot is an autonomous or teleoperated machine performing extraction, haulage, drilling, inspection, or surveying in surface or underground mines. Deployed examples include autonomous haul truck fleets at large surface mines, automated long-distance trains, teleoperated loaders that keep operators away from unstable ground, and inspection platforms for mapping GPS-denied tunnels, a challenge highlighted by the DARPA Subterranean Challenge.

Why it matters for physical AI

Mines combine extreme hazard, GPS denial, dust, and remoteness, driving some of the earliest full-scale autonomy deployments and stress-testing perception and localization far beyond benign indoor conditions.
