Foundation Models
Pi0.5 (Physical Intelligence)
Pi0.5 is the successor to Physical Intelligence's Pi0 model, introduced in 2025 to target open-world generalization. It co-trains a single vision-language-action model on heterogeneous sources, including multi-robot demonstrations, web-scale vision-language data, verbal instructions, and high-level subtask prediction, so the model both plans what to do and executes how to do it. It was demonstrated on mobile manipulators performing multi-minute cleaning tasks in homes unseen during training.
Why it matters for physical AI
Generalizing to genuinely new environments, not just new objects on a familiar tabletop, is the central open problem for robot foundation models, and Pi0.5's heterogeneous co-training is one of the most prominent attacks on it.
