Upper-Body Teleoperation

Upper-body teleoperation is the remote control of a humanoid or bimanual robot's arms, hands, torso, and head by mapping a human operator's corresponding upper-body motion, captured through VR headsets and hand tracking, motion-capture suits, or exoskeletons, onto the robot. Retargeting must reconcile differing kinematics and joint limits, and systems such as Open-TeleVision and AnyTeleop stream head-tracked stereo vision back to the operator for immersive, precise bimanual manipulation.

Humanoid manipulation data is overwhelmingly collected through upper-body teleoperation, so retargeting quality and operator immersion directly bound the dexterity that imitation-learned humanoid policies can acquire.
